Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) announced Tuesday that Cabo Verde Airlines will begin nonstop service between Sal, Cabo Verde’s Amílcar Cabral International Airport (SID) and Dulles International with three flights per week, beginning Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019. Passengers on this new route will travel nonstop aboard Boeing’s 757 aircraft, as the airline builds its Sal hub to create even more opportunities for travel between the United States and West Africa. Washington, D.C., becomes Cabo Verde Airlines’ second U.S. gateway.

“As the only airline offering nonstop service between the National Capital Region and Cabo Verde, Cabo Verde Airlines will provide travelers with unprecedented accessibility to the country’s popular leisure destinations, as well as convenient connections to West Africa, South America and beyond,” said Yil Surehan, vice president of Airline Business Development for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

Tuesday’s announcement is the latest new airline to initiate service from Dulles International in 2019, which saw passenger activity increase by more than 5 percent last year. With its new nonstop service to Sal, Cabo Verde Airlines joins 34 other air carriers offering more than 70 daily flights to 57 nonstop international destinations from the leading international airport in the National Capital Region.
