As the home to 21.83 million people and the size of 20 New York Cities, Beijing is a huge, sprawling metropolis. Visiting some of the city’s major sites in 24 hours requires careful planning. Fortunately, most of the main landmarks are located downtown. The easiest way to see the main sites is with a guided tour, which takes care of transportation and logistics for you.

Start early in the morning to avoid crowds at one of the world’s largest public squares, Tiananmen Square, known for historic protests and political events. If you have time, consider ending your sightseeing day at the famous Great Wall of China, located north of Beijing. The Mutianyu section is accessible enough for a quick visit. Take the cable car up to the top and enjoy the stunning views of the mountains and forests that surround the wall.
