Airline and airport executives, staff and special guests gathered Tuesday evening at Dulles International Airport to celebrate the launch of Royal Jordanian’s nonstop service from Washington, D.C., to Amman, Jordan, on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. With this new addition, Royal Jordanian is the 47th airline to serve Dulles travelers.
Airports Authority Releases Passenger Totals for 2024

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced that more than 53.54 million passengers traveled through its airports in 2024. This represents 5.8 percent growth from the year before and is a new system-wide record. Most of the increase happened at Washington Dulles International, which added six new airlines and experienced a record passenger total for the first time since 2005.
Airport Travel Tips for 2025 Inauguration Visitors

Passengers at Reagan National and Dulles International Airports should be prepared for additional crowds and congestion from Friday, January 17, through Tuesday, January 21, for the 2025 presidential inauguration that is expected to bring an influx of passengers to both Washington, D.C., airports. Since opening on November 17, 1962, Dulles grew from serving over 54,800 travelers in its first year to over 23 million per year today. Dulles International Airport Proposes New 14-Gate Concourse

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is proposing a new concourse at Washington Dulles International Airport to replace outdoor boarding areas currently used by regional flights, upgrade aircraft service facilities and bring new conveniences and amenities to passengers.
Three public information workshops will be held during the Master Plan process. The workshops will be used to inform and educate the general public of the study process and major findings. Each workshop will be conducted in accordance with COVID-19 pandemic guidelines applicable at the time of the workshop. The public workshops for the Dulles Airport Master Plan will be conducted at the following milestones:
As part of the airport’s master planning process, the Airports Authority has invited technical advisers and regional stakeholders from the community to assist both the Airport Authority and its outside master planning consultant, Ricondo & Associates, Inc. These stakeholders will bring an additional level of community and stakeholder involvement and their deep knowledge and skill sets, which augment those of Airports Authority and consultant staff.

Express lunchtime talks—30 minutes or fewer—are offered most Wednesdays. Facilitated by museum staff members, these conversation-driven thematic talks highlight three to six works on view.
This week, NMWA Director of Education and Interpretation Deborah Gaston discusses a sampling of works in the museum’s collection.
A Track Density Plot graphically depicts the frequency of aircraft movements over a defined area during a specified time period. It is an effective tool to illustrate arrival and departure corridors, or changes in flight procedures. A grid map is defined for the region and each grid is color-coded based on the number of times (frequency) an aircraft passed through the grid.
In cooperation with local governments surrounding Washington Dulles International Airport, (Dulles Interntional or Airport) the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority undertook an effort during 2018 and 2019 to update the noise contour maps for Dulles International. The objective of this effort was to provide updated noise contour maps that can help guide local government land use compatibility planning in the region.
Considering that the Dulles Access Road features 14 miles of some of the least congested and fastest moving road in the region, it just may be. So Go Easy. And Go Dulles.

Dulles International will host a series of performances over the coming weeks leading up to the holiday season. Every Thursday from now through the holidays there will be a performance at Dulles. Come enjoy!
The Wings for All program is designed specifically for individuals with special needs and their families to help learn about air travel and to ease the stress of flying.
When aircraft operations at Dulles grew to more than 509,000 in 2005, expanding the current three-runway system became a necessity. The first three runways at Dulles date back to the Airport's 1962 opening date. This project adds a fourth runway and paves the way for a future fifth runway. Both runways were approved by an FAA Record of Decision in 2005. Construction of the fourth runway began in 2006, but fifth runway construction is not yet scheduled.

Seven consecutive days of snow removal operations took place at Washington’s airports. During the storm, Dulles airport snow crews had to uncover airfield signs and lights. Trucks hauled snow from the airfield.

In October of 2011, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board of Directors commissioned an independent audit to assess the administrative procedures that the Airports Authority was using in the oversight of Phase 1 of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, and to recommend any opportunities for improvement in managing the Project.

Agreement Between the Airports Authority and VDOT
On December 29, 2006, The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority signed the first of several agreements with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), which will be required for the Dulles Metrorail Project to be financed and built by the Airports Authority.

By resolution approved on June 6, 2007, The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board of Directors authorized the Airports Authority to enter into a contract to construct Phase I of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail project. On July 23, 2008, The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board of Directors approved a resolution authorizing the Airports Authority to update the previously approved contract.
Dulles Concourse and Related Projects Environmental Assessment

The purpose of this Environmental Assessment (EA) was to evaluate existing conditions and environmental effects for building a new, permanent midfield concourse to replace the existing Concourse C/D that was built as a temporary facility in the 1980's. The Proposed Action (Build Alternative) included these four elements: Tier 2 Concourse (New permanent Concourse C), an Automated People Mover (APM) System and south utilities and support facilities.
