New Mobile Ordering Service Lets Passengers at Reagan National, Dulles International Airports Offer Food without Waiting in Line

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority celebrated the launch of Iberia Airline’s new nonstop service between Washington, D.C. (IAD) and Spain’s Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) on Wednesday. The inaugural flight, featuring a special City of Madrid themed aircraft, was powered by a sustainable aviation fuel blend – a first for a trans-Atlantic flight by the Spanish carrier. 

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced on Thursday the purchase of five fully electric-powered buses from Proterra Operating Company Inc. for use in its fleet of parking shuttles at Washington Dulles International Airport. This purchase, which is being funded by a grant from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, is a major step toward the Airports Authority’s goal of a more sustainable fleet of low- or zero-emission ground transportation vehicles.  

As the popular spring break travel period approaches in the National Capital Region, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is gearing up to welcome passenger numbers expected to rival pre-pandemic levels at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) between now and the end of April. With more travelers passing through the airports and more vehicles transiting airport roadways, here are the top tips to prepare for a safe and enjoyable experience when coming to Reagan National or Dulles International this spring:

The leisure-focused carrier doubles its destination list from Washington, D.C.

The Airports Authority is proposing amendments to the following four sections of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Regulations:   Sections 7.5 and 7.6, relating to permits and in-Terminal locations for Demonstrations and distribution of literature; Section 9.11, relating to the use of the Virginia Central Criminal Records Exchange for background checks of Airports Authority employees; and Section 10.2, relating to the enforcement process for collection of unpaid tolls on the Dulles Toll Road.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority expects busy travel at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport to continue through the year-end holiday season. This continues the trend observed during Thanksgiving, when passenger volumes reached close to 2019 activity levels.
